The Woodstock Music and Art Fair in 1969 drew more than 500,000 people to Max Yasgur's farm in upstate New York. For four days, the site became a city in which minds were open, drugs were legal and love was "free". The music began Friday afternoon August 15, 1969, and continued until mid-morning on Monday, August 18 as Jimi Hendrix wrapped it up with his classic version of the Star Spangled Banner. The festival closed the New York State Thruway and created one of the nation's worst traffic jams.It also had one of the most remarkable performances of all time by Joe Cocker, the seemingly spastic rocker with a huge following. Here is Joe performing the classic Beatles tune, "With a Little Help from My Friends". Translation is provided. Enjoy.
