Why Would Any Labor Union Endorse Hillary Clinton?

Hillary Clinton served for six years on the board of Wal-Mart from 1986 to 1992, the huge retailer criticized by many for its treatment of workers and its aggressive opposition to unions. Hillary Clinton might be done with her past but her past isn't done with her. She praised Sam Walton. Although this was 14 years ago, it was during her period of so-called "35 years of experience" and during the period of Wal-Mart's most explosive and expansive growth, using the same anti-union, anti-worker policies they use today.

During the period Hillary was on the Board, WalMart opened between 170 and 250 stores per year, not including an additional 25-50 Sam's Clubs. She would have had to have had her head in the sand not to know that plenty of people, including unions, were criticizing WalMart during this period for destroying local mom and pop stores.

For someone who would like to compete for John Edwards' supporters who represent the workers of America, it will be difficult for her to justify turning a blind eye to the treatment by WalMart of its employees and its disdain for the welfare of local businesses in the community. In fact, WalMart Attorney John Tate often referred to labor unions as "blood sucking parasites". This is one more example of the "flip-flop" behavior of Mrs. Clinton on this and many other issues such as Iraq, licenses for illegal immigrants, etc.
