Staunch conservative Pat Buchanan had nothing but love for Barack Obama's acceptance speech at the 2008 Democratic national convention given before 85,000 people in Denver's Mile High Stadium. This reaction is as amazing as the speech itself!
In 1960, John F. Kennedy said something very similar to Barack Obama:
"Our task is not merely one of itemizing Republican failures. Nor is that wholly necessary. For the families forced from the farm do not need to tell us of their plight. The unemployed miners and textile workers know that the decision is before them in November. The old people without medical care, the families without a decent home, the parents of children without a decent school: They all know that it's time for a change.
We are not here to curse the darkness; we are here to light a candle. As Winston Churchill said on taking office some twenty years ago: If we open a quarrel between the present and the past, we shall be in danger of losing the future.
Today our concern must be with that future. For the world is changing. The old era is ending. The old ways will not do."

NOTE: IN 1960, REPUBLICANS SAID JFK DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH EXPERIENCE. THEY SAID THE SAME THING ABOUT BILL CLINTON. SOUND FAMILIAR? BARACK OBAMA'S EXPERIENCE LEVEL IS IDENTICAL TO THAT OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN.
I also watched MLK's speech in 1963 and he must be so proud of not only Barack Obama but of America and the strides that have been made and opportunities provided. Thank you for posting this heartwarming speech. I pray he will become President and end the stranglehold the Republican Party has on our lives and reputation abroad.
ReplyDeleteAs a staunch supporter of Hillary Clinton, I listed to this speech determined to disregard whatever he said and vote for John McCain. I can no longer do that. Any man capable of writing and delivering a speech such as this filled with humor, compassion, and directed at all the issues that must be addressed, is worthy of my vote.
ReplyDeleteI am proud to say that I am now firmly in Mr. Obama's corner and will be proud the day he is sworn into office. I now realize that my anger towards him was misdirected and the result of a deep desire to see the first woman president. With Mr. Obama's obvious deep love for his daughters, I feel certain that he will work to create an environment from which the first female president will emerge.
