Oregon Legalizes Industrial Hemp

Hemp Farming in America

Sanity is gradually returning to the United States as the State of Oregon became the sixth state to legalize industrial hemp.

Oregon’s House of Representatives voted Monday night to legalize the cultivation of hemp, becoming the sixth state to do so just this year.

Oregon’s Senate voted 27 to 2 in favor of the new law last week. Monday’s 46 to 11 House vote means that the measure will become law, barring an unlikely veto by Governor Ted Kulongoski.

The move is part of a rapidly growing nationwide trend to liberalize laws relating to marijuana. Hemp is a botanical cousin of marijuana, traditionally used to make clothing, rope and other durable fiber goods.

“Hemp is a versatile, environmentally-friendly crop that has not been grown in the U.S. for over fifty years because of a misguided and politicized interpretation of the nation’s drug laws by the Drug Enforcement Administration,” Vote Hemp President Eric Steenstra said in a statement.

“While a new bill in Congress, HR 1866, is a welcome step, the hemp industry is hopeful that President Obama’s administration will recognize hemp’s myriad benefits to farmers, businesses and the environment.”

According to Vote Hemp, this year Maine, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota and Vermont and ”all passed resolutions or memorials urging Congress to allow states to regulate hemp farming.”

California is at the forefront of the marijuana debate, with a movement growing to decriminalize marijuana for personal use in the state by 2010.

But in Oregon’s debate, politicians were careful to distinguish between hemp and weed, and to highlight the fact that the new law would allow farmers to cultivate hemp, not grow marijuana.

Some members of Oregon’s legislature displayed t-shirts reading “Senate Bill 676 is about rope, not dope.”

Ron Paul and Barney Frank: Legalize Industrial Hemp Now

True American Heroes

Bring back industrial hemp

Eighty years ago, using a dizzying barrage of propaganda and racist dirty tricks, the chemical company DuPont with the help of newspaper mogul William Randolph Hearst succeeded in having the cultivation and possession of hemp criminalized. The reality is that industrial grade hemp cannot be used to get high, and it's one of the most useful plants in human history. Hemp is one of the most diverse plants on the planet, and could literally supply most of humankind's needs for fuel, food, clothing, building products, and medicine. It would provide a multi-billion dollar industry for American farmers in this dire time of economic need.

Two US Congressmen, Barney Frank and Ron Paul, have introduced the Industrial Hemp Farming Act to change this sorry state of affairs. Eight other Congressmen from both parties have co-sponsored it.

Currently, about 99% of marijuana that is being eradicated by the "heroic" efforts of the DEA and other publicly funded layabouts is "ditchweed," completely unsmokable biological material descended from hemp plants that used to provide America and the world with cloth, fiber, paper, industrial lubricants, and even food (the seeds are as nutritious as milk.)

Then, in 1943, the United States Department of Agriculture produced this 13 minute video entitled "Hemp for Victory" in the national interest to protect our efforts in WW2 urging American farmers to grow this valuable plant that was MANDATORY for the early colonial farmers to grow.

Perhaps sanity will FINALLY prevail in this country.

The President Makes a Big Mistake

Mr. President, Say It Isn't So

This is an open letter to you, Mr. President, because I feel I know you. Since your speech at the Convention in 2004, I knew you would become President. Your approach to the world, your patience, your calm, and your ability to see the whole forest, not just the trees in front of you, make you the equal of few humans, among them Tiger Woods. Focus and direction are abilities that few people master.

Now, enough with the platitudes, I would like to talk with you in layman's terms about a statement you made today that a man of your reasoning abilities must realize is baloney (balogna for the Italians who read this). Here it is:

That is your politically correct answer. Remember this?

I realize that this topic is very delicate for you POLITICALLY, but it's one that we must discuss without bias or prejudice. Let's put politics aside and discuss what is truly in the best interest of the American people. What would you say, Mr. President, if I told you that we have a PROVEN CURE FOR CANCER? Would you listen to me for the American people?

I believe in your programs and agree that we must address healthcare, education, jobs and energy all at once. I also believe it will generate the short term growth and stability you are seeking. However, we MUST HAVE additional revenue sources that will provide LONG-TERM stability and growth. We have those sources AVAILABLE NOW.

Let's agree to ground rules. I will present many arguments in favor of the legalization of marijuana and welcome your response to each.

1. Religion

First, it is both moral and ethical for you to legalize this God-given plant. As a Christian, I am sure you adhere to the teachings of the Bible. I am not a Bible scholar and the information presented to you is a result of research and assistance for more Godly friends. What does the Bible tell us about marijuana (Cannabis)?

At Exodus 30:22-25, God gives the recipe to Moses for holy anointing oil. One of the key ingredients of this oil is cannabis hemp. The Hebrew word “Keneh-bosem” is mistranslated as sweet calamus, aromatic cane or sweet cane. The story goes that King James intentionally mistranslated Keneh-bosem into Calamus after his wife was caught in an affair. Canaan was named for Cannabis. Evidently, the bible translators are trying to hide the fact that this is marijuana. Cannabis Hemp is one of the many blessings that God gave to man as stated at Genesis 1:11 and Genesis 1:29, and we are commanded to appreciate and to use all of God's creations as long as it is received with thanks, as stated at 1 Timothy 4:4.

In 1860 the Ohio State Medical Society concurred with Biblical scholars that 'the gall and vinegar or myrrhed wine offered to our saviour immediately before his crucifixion was a preparation of Indian hemp”.

For purposes of this communication, I will refer to Marijuana or Cannabis as Hemp. The difference between marijuana and hemp is the absence of THC in the hemp plant. Here is a timeline of the usage of hemp in the United States:

A Timeline of Hemp in the United States

1619 - Virginia colony makes hemp cultivation mandatory, followed by most other colonies. Europe pays hemp bounties.

1631 - Hemp used as money throughout American colonies.

1776 - American 'Declaration of Independence' drafted on hemp paper.

1791 - President Washington sets duties on hemp to encourage domestic industry; Jefferson calls hemp "a necessity", and urges farmers to grow hemp instead of tobacco.

1801 - Certain premiums offered to encourage the cultivation of hemp in Upper and Lower Canada.

1800's Australia survives two prolonged famines by eating virtually nothing but hemp seed for protein and hemp leaves for roughage.

Then it happened . . .

The corporations stepped in:

1850's – The Petrochemical age begins. Toxic sulfite and chlorine processes make paper from trees, steamships replace sails, tropical fibers introduced.

1930's - New machines invented to break hemp, process the fiber, and convert pulp or hurds into paper, plastics, etc. - DuPont was getting ready to file patents for nylon. He got his friend William Hearst, owner of a network of National newspapers to spread Racist fears of Mexicans, Asians, and African Americans engaging in illicit activities with innocent young white girls that lead to an outcry for cannabis to be outlawed. Isn't it amazing what a controlled Racist press can do?

1937 - Marijuana Tax Act forbids hemp farming in the US. Dupont files patent for nylon.

1938 - Canada prohibits production of hemp under Opium And Narcotics Control Act.

Outraged by the ban, Henry Ford built a car out of hemp as a means of protest in 1941. Here it is:

Does that give you any ideas as to the Auto Industry, or the potential of Industrial Hemp? Henry Ford ran 40,000 vehicles on hemp fuel from only 10,000 acres. The emissions are what you exhale, and next year’s crop is reconverting it back to oxygen. That’s a natural cycle fuel! Best of all... the money stays home.

In 1943, faced with a desperate shortage of war materials, the United States government produced a movie entitled “Hemp for Victory”, and urged farmers in America to grow hemp in the interest of national security. The Farmers of America answered the call. Here is that movie:

Mr. President, the Farmers of America answered the call. In 1938, Popular Mechanics Magazine declared that Hemp was the “NEXT BILLION DOLLAR INDUSTRY” and a boon for farmers across America. However, the corporate influence of men like Hearst and DuPont stepped in and, appealing to the most racist and base instincts of Americans, banned both marijuana and hemp. This was not in the best interest of Americans. It was corporate greed. Now, here is a plea to you from Willie Nelson, representing the Farmers of America.

In 1955, hemp farming was again banned. Since that time, the world has begun to come to its senses.

1992 - Australia licences hemp farming.

1993 - England eases restriction on hemp farming. News media declare hemp clothes and cannabis leaf logo hottest new fashion.

1994 - Under the CNCA, one license was granted to a Canadian company, Hempline Inc., to grow hemp experimentally in Canada under the strict supervision of the authorities.

1996 - The Canadian federal government passed Bill C8 stating that mature hemp stalks are exempt from the list of controlled substances.

1998 - The Canadian government legalizes the commercial growth of industrial hemp.

I listed a short history of Hemp in the United States simply as a means of introduction. Here is a two-minute video of the worldwide importance of hemp.

The Time for Acceptance is NOW

Hemp is one of the most diverse plants on the planet, and could literally supply most of humankind's needs for fuel, food, clothing, building products, and medicine. Despite its usefulness, hemp is illegal to grow in the United States.

Hemp as Food

The Nutritional Composition of a Hemp Seed is Exceptional. Whole hemp seeds contain approximately 25% protein, 31% fat (in the form of a nutritious oil), and 34% carbohydrates, in addition to an interesting array of vitamins and minerals.

1972 - U.S.D.A. finds that hemp seed is lower in saturated fats than any other vegetable oil (including soybean and canola). Other studies note that until this century hemp-cake (the by-product of pressing the seed for oil ) was one of the world's principle animal feeds. It is also found that hemp seed, like soybeans, can produce a tofu-like curd and be spiced to taste like chicken, steak or pork; can be sprouted for salads, ground into meal, and also made into margarine.

Hemp seed is recommended as a nutritionally balanced food for domestic pets and farm animals.

A direct result of marijuana prohibition has been malnutrition and hunger in many parts of the world. Because hemp is the ONLY common seed with three essential fatty acids is unique and essential. In response to global climate change, the climate mitigation potential of cannabis agriculture should be considered.

Hemp as Fuel

The thought of hemp production as a cheap alternative to oil and gas is appealing because it can be converted to "biomass" that is, in turn, converted to energy. "Biomass can be converted to methane, methanol or gasoline at a fraction of the current cost of oil, coal or nuclear energy," Jack Herer, a longtime hemp activist and author of "The Emperor Wears No Clothes," said. In his book, he says, "Hemp stems are 80 percent hurds" (pulp byproduct after the hemp fiber is removed from the plant). Hemps hurds are 77 percent cellulose - a primary chemical feed stock (industrial raw material) used in the production of chemicals, plastics and fibers ... an acre of full-grown hemp plants can provide from 50 to 100 times the cellulose found in cornstalks, kenaf or sugar cane."

According to Herer's research, "Farming only 6 percent of the continental U.S. acreage with biomass [from hemp] crops would provide all of Americans' gas and oil energy needs, ending dependence upon fossil fuels." Think about that! If we would just farm only 6% of our available acreage, we would end our dependency upon foreign countries!

He added, "Each acre of hemp would yield 1,000 gallons of methanol. Fuels from hemp, along with the recycling of paper, etc., would be enough to run America virtually without oil." Herer explained the versatility of hemp by saying, "It can be grown in virtually any climate or soil condition on Earth, even marginal ones."

Hemp as Medicine

We are familiar, Mr. President, with the benefits of medical marijuana as published. However, its benefits are far greater than has been allowed to be known.

1975 - Researchers at the Medical College of Virginia discover that cannabis is incredibly successful for reducing the size of many types of tumors, both benign and cancerous.

In 2000 Dr. Manuel Guzman of Complutense University in Madrid Spain re-discovered that THC destroys tumors with no negative side effects whatsoever. His team also irrigated healthy rats brains with high doses of THC for seven days and again found no negative results. Cannabinoids kill cancer cells by cutting off their blood supply but not to the healthy cells. These results have since been duplicated around the globe with many other cancers as well.

In 2005 Dr. Xia Zhang of the University of Saskatchewan found that THC actually promotes the growth of brain cells bringing new hope for head trauma and stroke patients. The same year the Scripps Institute reported that THC was a superior inhibitor of the plaque that causes Alzheimers. Unfortunately we hear little of any of these findings.

In 2008 researchers in Italy and the U.K. found that cannabinoids have germ killing activity against MRSA and kill bacteria in a different way than current antibiotics, meaning they might bypass bacterial resistance. MRSA's are becoming more and more prevalent and new treatments are desperately needed.

Cannabis has also been found extremely helpful with autism, epilepsy, arthritis, migraine, asthma, emphysema, MS, ALS, OCD, ADHD, chronic pain, nausea, cystic fibrosis, lupus, tuberculosis, muscular dystrophy, depression, diabetes, glaucoma, alcoholism, herpes, anxiety, Parkinsons, Huntingtons, Tourettes, Crohn's disease, and more. It is the safest medicine known to man. All mammals, birds, fish, and reptiles have cannabinoid receptors throughout their body that work independently of those that control the heart and breathing which is why cannabis cannot kill you. The hemp seed is the single most nutritionally complete food source on Earth, reintroduced to our diets it will alleviate many of the above mentioned diseases and help end world hunger.

So, if you take this information and add it to all the all the nutritional, industrial and cosmetic uses, then add in that it was God himself that in the original Hebrew text of the Old Testament instructed Moses to use 250 shekels of cannabis(kaneh bosm) in the Holy Oil used to anoint all Priests, Kings, and Prophets, for all generations to come, including that of Jesus and even today as the title Christ/Messiah means literally covered in oil, anointed, I think we have the botanical Messiah, the Mystical Tree of Life, not a worthless plant!!!

Now, Mr. President, please let me introduce you to Rick Simpson, author of “Run From the Cure”. Rick, and an entire town in Nova Scotia, have PROVEN that a mixture of Hemp Oil with THC cures cancer. This is not rumor or conjecture, it is FACT. I invite you to invite your wife to watch this video with you. Its importance cannot be underestimated.

After a serious head injury in 1997, Rick Simpson sought relief from his medical condition through the use of medicinal hemp oil. When Rick discovered that the hemp oil (with its high concentration of T.H.C.) cured cancers and other illnesses, he tried to share it with as many people as he could free of charge - curing and controlling literally hundreds of people's illnesses... but when the story went public, the long arm of the law snatched the medicine - leaving potentially thousands of people without their cancer treatments - and leaving Rick with unconstitutional charges of possessing and trafficking marijuana! Canada, like the United States, is in the middle of a CANCER EPIDEMIC and the traditional medical industry has no clue how to stop it! Meet the people who were not allowed to testify on Rick's behalf at the Supreme Court of Canada's Infamous Rick Simpson Trial on September 10, 2007... INCLUDING A MAN WHO WAS CURED OF TERMINAL CANCER USING HEMP OIL!

Please watch this video and explain to me why you should not invite Rick Simpson to the United States to supervise the preparation of Hemp Oil with THC. I'll bet you will have millions of cancer suffers willing to undergo the cure.

Mr. President, to avoid the legalization of marijuana is NOT in the best interests of the American people both economically and healthwise. It is vital that the racist ban be removed and our people allowed to experience this gift of nature to mankind.

Based upon this information, please reconsider your stance. We will support you.

Ron Paul: America Must End War on Drugs

Perhaps he has been reading The Candid Blogger. First Barney Frank introduces a bill to decriminalize marijuana and now Congressman Ron Paul steps up AGAIN. He has been a constant opponent of the War on Drugs and its disastrous effects on the American people. It is time. Here is the article:

"Congressman Ron Paul is the most conservative, grandfatherly man to ever be admired by America's marijuana enthusiasts. On Friday night's episode of HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher, he reminded those who may have been suffering an impaired short-term memory at that late hour why, exactly, they should like him.

Speaking live from Clute, Texas, the libertarian-leaning Republican did what few other members of Congress will and openly called for the United States' War on Drugs to be abolished.

"What about when FDR came to office in '33," asked Maher. "One of the first things he did was repeal prohibition. He said we can't afford this anymore. Well, we have prohibition in this country. ... When he was making radical changes he said look, we're serious now. We're going to make serious changes and people like liquor."

"Well, in this country, people like pot," said Maher to a wave of cheers and applause. "If we ended that prohibition, that would be a giant pooling of money."

"I don't like pot," said the congressman. "But I hate the drug war, so I would repeal all of prohibition. But, I wouldn't even bother taxing it. People have the right in a free country to make important decisions on their own lives. If they want to make mistakes, they can. They just can't come crawling to the government to get bailed out or taken care of if they get sick."
"I believe in freedom of choice in all that we do, as long as the individual never hurts anybody else. So that means I would get rid of all the federal laws. I would dispose with the drug war. We're spending tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars on this, then we march into places like California, override state law, arrest sick people and put them in prison."

"It makes no sense whatsoever," he insisted.

"Amen, stoner," joked Maher.

Run From the Cure -- A True Story

In response to the following reader comment on the article, THANK YOU MICHAEL PHELPS, we are happy to post the video you recommended, Rick Simpson's "RUN FOR THE CURE".
"Wow! What an admission coming from our born again friends! The laws of men and those of God contrast widely on marijuana. As a naturally occurring plant, marijuana contains so many beneficial properties that it could only come from a kind and loving God.

Obviously, cannabis has a wide range of medical benefits. More than 15 states have passed laws allowing the medical use of marijuana. The Obama administration has said they'd make no effort to intervene in the distribution of M.M..

Cannabis sativa's benefits to cancer patients are considerable. They include pain reduction, appetite stimulation, and anti-nausea. Also people with conditions like Multiple Sclerosis and glaucoma swear by cannabis' effectiveness. Big Pharma could lose billions if cheaper marijuana is made available.

In its modern definition, hemp is an industrial equivalent with trace THC and zero psychotropic qualities. It requires no fertilizer to grow, and provides hemp seed oil--an excellent substitute for petroleum-based products. Hemp also contains a perfect balance of Omega 3s and 6s.

See norml.org for more on the legality of hemp and marijuana prohibition, causing over 700,000 Americans to be jailed each year. An excellent story on marijuana's medical benefits is Rick Simpson's story, Run from the Cure, available on youtube."

This is for our reader, J.B. Peebles. We only ask that you pass it on to all those who care about fairness and justice -- in other words, pass it on FREE.

Here's Your Miracle, President Obama

Dear Mr. President,

First I want to congratulate you on your historical victory and to thank you for sticking to your word and making a concerted effort to bring about a bi-partisan approach to government. Unfortunately, the Republican Party through its Emperor of Evil, John Boehner, again displayed its contempt for the American people by not giving one single vote in support of your Stimulus Package. That demonstrates that their commitment to the American people is non-existent.

Now I am sitting here watching financial guru Jim Cramer ranting about how this Stimulus Package is too small and that you don't realize the depths to which this economy has fallen. He may be right, he may be wrong -- we'll see. We all agree that you are facing a monumental task, one that perhaps exceed that which any President ever faced. Most people say you need a Miracle.

Here is the gist of another article I read: "Over the last 20 years, America has degenerated into a nation of consumers, with 72 percent of Gross Domestic Product now being accounted for by consumer spending—most of it going for things that are produced overseas and shipped here. That is not an economic model that is sustainable, and it is a model that has just suffered what is certainly a mortal blow."

A Miracle is Needed

A man is lying in the street barely breathing, the result of a heart attack. The paramedics arrive, and upon seeing that he is almost gone, jam the needle into his heart in a last-ditch attempt to save him. In my opinion and experience, this is not the time to try to fix our economy a step at a time, we simply don't have that luxury. We need our own Needle, NOW . . . and we have it. The question is, Mr. President, do YOU have the courage to use it? If you do, I promise you that you will brought about the Miracle we needed to not only turn around, but make our economy surge.

LEGALIZE INDUSTRIAL HEMP and allow the ingenuity of the American people to take over. As I am sure you are aware, in 1938, Popular Mechanics Magazine declared that Hemp was the "next billion dollar industry" and a boon for farmers across America. However, the corporate influence of men like Hearst and DuPont stepped in. The Marijuana Tax Act is passed and forbids hemp farming in the US. Dupont files a patent for nylon and Hearst spreads horrible negative propaganda through his national network of newspapers.

Legalized hemp would help the following industries:

Farming - In 1938, Popular Mechanics Magazine declared that Hemp was the next billion dollar industry and a boon for farmers across America. However, the corporate influence of men like Hearst and DuPont stepped in. The Marijuana Tax Act is passed and forbids hemp farming in the US. Dupont files a patent for nylon.

In 1991, Willie Nelson issued a plea to America to come to its senses and legalize Industrial Hemp, a product that was mandatory for the farmers of the Colonies, and for which the United States Government made a movie entitled, "Hemp for Victory". That was eighteen (18) years ago! Why is it STILL illegal? To protect the financial corporate interests of the textile, petrochemical, and lumber (paper) industries. How long will America stand for corporate America sticking it to the little guy?

NOW IS THE TIME! THE PLANET NEEDS HELP!

Hemp, Nature's Perfect Plant

Industrial hemp is an incredible resource. Hemp is harvested for its fibers for hemp clothing and seeds for hemp oil. With a relatively short growth cycle of 100-120 days, it is an efficient and economical crop for farmers to grow, however, industrial hemp cannot be commercially grown in the United States because it is erroneously confounded with marijuana. In fact, industrial hemp and marijuana are different breeds of Cannabis sativa. Smoking large amounts of hemp flowers can produce a headache but not a high!

A few years back, only TWO (2) state senators voted for the legalization of hemp. One was Barack Obama. NOW IS THE TIME!

Auto Industry
- Your efforts to allow states to set their own emissions limits have already been met with opposition from the Auto Industry. These arrogant automakers have taken billions in corporate welfare known as the "bailout" and still don't get it. There is so much that can be done with hemp in the auto industry it is truly amazing. From building cars out of hemp to driving them on fuel from hemp, the world is open to America to use its ingenuity.

Here is why General Motors does not deserve ANY help whatsoever. NONE. Mr. President, How would you like Americans to have a car that runs for the equivalent of 60 cents a gallon? That we can "gas up" in our own garage? That has zero emissions and is super easy to repair and maintain? General Motors made and sold such a car in the late 1990s. They produced and leased out 200 of them. One was to Tom Hanks who loved it so much he wanted to extend or renew his lease. They refused, called in all of the cars, and destroyed them. In fact, the auto industry is calling in all electric cars and shredding them as we speak. Here is the proof:

In 1942, Henry Ford assembled a car out of plastic made from hemp:

Here is an example of more American ingenuity:

Hemp Powered Car Debuts in Washington

Construction and Housing - We can learn a lot from a lady in France who builds 300 homes per year using "hemp cement" which is stronger yet six (6) times lighter than regular cement.

Medical - "In 1860 the Ohio State Medical Society concurred with Biblical scholars that 'the gall and vinegar or myrrhed wine offered to our saviour immediately before his crucifixion was a preparation of Indian hemp." - Chris Bennett Green Gold

Trucking - Legalizing hemp would revitalize the trucking industry as jobs will be created for the transport and delivery of all types of hemp products from clothing to food to farming. It would be a tremendous boost to the industry and is a necessary move at this time.

Alternative to Oil - The thought of hemp production as a cheap alternative to oil and gas is appealing because it can be converted to "biomass" that is, in turn, converted to energy. According to Herer's research, "Farming only 6 percent of the continental U.S. acreage with biomass [from hemp] crops would provide all of Americans' gas and oil energy needs, ending dependence upon fossil fuels." Think about that! If we would just farm only 6% of our available acreage, we would end our dependency upon foreign countries!"

Energy - The thought of hemp production as a cheap alternative to oil and gas is appealing because it can be converted to "biomass" that is, in turn, converted to energy.

  • Hemp grown for the production of biomass fuels can provide all of our gas, oil and coal energy needs and end dependency on fossil fuels.

  • Hemp results in a 95.5% fuel-to-feed ratio when used for pyrolysis the thermochemical process that converts organic matter into fuel.

  • Biomass has heating value of up to 8,000 BTU/lb., with virtually no residual sulphur or ash during combustion.

  • Biomass fuels offer a clean alternative to fossil fuels. No sulphur oxides are released, either during pyrolysis or combustion. A closed CO2 system is created. According to Stanley Manahan, «Environmental Chemistry », biomass fuels would not result in any net CO2 being added to the atmosphere.

  • Hemp is the #1 producer of biomass per acre in the world.

Textiles - People made hemp fabric thousands of years before the advent of written language. Hemp ropes and sails were the backbone of the sailing ship's service to people for 6,000 years. Betsy Ross made the first flag of the United States of America out of the finest, strongest fiber available, hemp fabric. According to HEMPTECH in Industrial Hemp, 1995, the manufacture of textiles is the third largest industry in the world. In 1938, hemp was used to producemore than 5,000 textile products.

"It is also said that the finest laces of the olden days were always made of hemp in preference to any other fiber." - Herndon, p.154.

Hemp makes great clothing, linens, lace, upholstery material, rugs, strapping, fire hose, sailcloth and canvas. Fabrics made from hemp are more insulating, softer, stronger, more water absorbent and last many times longer than cotton. This amazing plant fiber holds its shape as well as polyester, but "breathes" and is biodegradable because it is a completely natural fiber. It has been valued for its durability since before recorded history.

Hemp can be woven as coarse as burlap, smooth as silk, or intricate as lace. The canvas sails on thousands of years of ships and covers for the covered wagons were all made of hemp. The quality of this natural fiber has yet to be surpassed. This natural cycle of life can be used by the entire world, greatly reducing our foreign aid as nations prosper with hemp. Over the 1800's, hemp was gradually replaced by cheaper foreign fibers. By the 1930's, we as a nation were so far removed from the natural cycle of hemp, that people believed the lie (by our own government, of course) that hemp was some new killer weed with their made up name of marijuana.

One of the major reasons for ending hemp prohibition is that hemp can replace cotton as the nation's primary fiber. From The Emperor: "Finally, it must be noted that approximately 50% of all chemicals (pesticides, herbicides, etc.) used in American agriculture today are used in cotton growing. Hemp needs no chemicals, has virtually no weed or insect enemies -except for the U.S. Government and the DEA."

It is one of the major challenges of this decade that we find alternatives to the poisons of the synthetic society. The EPA Superfund cleanup program for a fraction of the toxic dumps in our country may cost as much as one trillion dollars. These chemicals, many of which are persistent in the environment, have poisoned our earth, our water, our food and ourselves. To be able to get rid of half of these agricultural poisons by replacing cotton with hemp, would be a major environmental miracle
.

World Hunger -

"Among the greatest harms of 'marijuana' prohibition have been the radical food insecurity and malnutrition that afflict the world, as the result of imposing scarcity of industrial hemp. Because hemp is the only common seed with three essential fatty acids, it s both unique and essential. Unique and essential natural resources have never been within the rightful jurisdiction of any court. Now that global climate change is a widely recognized threat, perhaps the climate-mitigation potential of Cannabis agriculture will be seriously considered" - P.E.A.C.E.

Even this guy knows the value and importance of Hemp to the American people:

National Security - Thomas Jefferson said it long ago and it still applies today.

Thomas was not just whistling "Dixie". In World War II, there was a shortage of hemp in the United States which was seriously affecting the war effort. The United States government, in a desperate attempt to encourage American farmers to grow hemp so we could have canvas, rope, etc., produced the following movie called "Hemp for Victory". I firmly believe that this statement from the United States Department of Agriculture is all the justification you need for legalizing industrial hemp and decriminalizing marijuana, which in itself, would free up our justice system and take possession of this medicinal herb out of the courts, returning many deserving people to their families and jobs and decreasing our unjustified prison population.

Here is the movie:

Justification
: You may need this in America but will be hailed around the world. I'm aware that you would face some initial opposition from the religious right on this so I've done some homework:

Cannabis Hemp is one of the many blessings that God gave to man as stated at Genesis 1:11 and Genesis 1:29, and we are commanded to appreciate and to use all of God's creations as long as it is received with thanks, as stated at 1 Timothy 4:4.

At Exodus 30:22-25, God gives the recipe to Moses for holy anointing oil. One of the key ingredients of this oil is cannabis hemp. The Hebrew word Keneh-bosem is mistranslated as sweet calamus, aromatic cane or sweet cane. Evidently, the bible translators are trying to hide the fact that this is marijuana.

This oil was smeared or sprinkled on everything holy such as the priest, the tent post and everything that was put on the altar as a burnt offering. Whenever it was burned, as the smoke ascended into heaven, thus; the prayers of those seeking atonement for their sins became a restful odor to God as stated at Exodus 29:18.

In the New Testament, this same oil was used to anoint Jesus before his crucifiction at Matthew 26:7-12, Mark 14:3-9, Luke 7:37-38, Mark 7:46, John 11:2 and John 12:3-5 shows that Jesus was covered with it from head to toe.

This same oil was used by the Disciples to heal the sick and to cast out demons at James 5:14, Mark 6:13 and Luke 10:34.

At Revelations 22:2, it states that the leaves from the Tree of Life will cure the nations. This is the same tree that is talked about in Genesis 3:22; that if you partake of this tree, that the devils control will be lifted from you and can lead you in the direction of everlasting life. Furthermore; the word Christ means the anointed one and the word Christians means those who are anointed with holy anointing oil.

Anyway you look at it, making this gift of nature legal is the right thing to do for the country at this time in our history. To not do so may well be financially disastrous. To summarize, Mr. President, just one simple stroke of your pen, the legalization of industrial hemp, will save the United States economy, revitalize several industries at once, and restore our country to its former greatness. I wish you success.

Change.gov Voters have Spoken

#1 Priority: Legalize Marijuana

Voting on change.org’s “Ideas for Change in America” came to a close today with “Legalize the Medical and Recreational Use of Marijuana” coming in as the most popular idea. The top ten ideas will be presented to President-elect Obama during a press conference on Friday.

Change.gov, Obama’s official transition Web site, has twice opened up voting in a similar feature called “Open for Questions.” Each time, a question about marijuana policy reached the top ten. And each time, the transition team brushed off the question by simply stating that “President-elect Obama is not in favor of the legalization of marijuana.” It will be interesting to see how he responds this time, as the question includes medical marijuana, something Obama has been fairly supportive of in the past.

As of 5:00 p.m. today, the marijuana policy question had received 19,530 votes – 4,500 more than “Appoint Secretary of Peace in Department of Peace and Non-Violence,” which came in second on the list. In addition, change.gov has opened voting in a new online forum called the “Citizen’s Briefing Book.” “Ending Marijuana Prohibition” is currently the most popular idea.
