Oregon Legalizes Industrial Hemp

Sanity is gradually returning to the United States as the State of Oregon became the sixth state to legalize industrial hemp.

Oregon’s House of Representatives voted Monday night to legalize the cultivation of hemp, becoming the sixth state to do so just this year.

Oregon’s Senate voted 27 to 2 in favor of the new law last week. Monday’s 46 to 11 House vote means that the measure will become law, barring an unlikely veto by Governor Ted Kulongoski.

The move is part of a rapidly growing nationwide trend to liberalize laws relating to marijuana. Hemp is a botanical cousin of marijuana, traditionally used to make clothing, rope and other durable fiber goods.

“Hemp is a versatile, environmentally-friendly crop that has not been grown in the U.S. for over fifty years because of a misguided and politicized interpretation of the nation’s drug laws by the Drug Enforcement Administration,” Vote Hemp President Eric Steenstra said in a statement.

“While a new bill in Congress, HR 1866, is a welcome step, the hemp industry is hopeful that President Obama’s administration will recognize hemp’s myriad benefits to farmers, businesses and the environment.”

According to Vote Hemp, this year Maine, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota and Vermont and ”all passed resolutions or memorials urging Congress to allow states to regulate hemp farming.”

California is at the forefront of the marijuana debate, with a movement growing to decriminalize marijuana for personal use in the state by 2010.

But in Oregon’s debate, politicians were careful to distinguish between hemp and weed, and to highlight the fact that the new law would allow farmers to cultivate hemp, not grow marijuana.

Some members of Oregon’s legislature displayed t-shirts reading “Senate Bill 676 is about rope, not dope.”

Farming Hemp in the United States

In 1938, Popular Mechanics Magazine declared that Hemp was the next billion dollar industry and a boon for farmers across America. However, the corporate influence of men like Hearst and DuPont stepped in. The Marijuana Tax Act is passed and forbids hemp farming in the US. Dupont files a patent for nylon.

In 1991, Willie Nelson issued a plea to America to come to its senses and legalize Industrial Hemp, a product that was mandatory for the farmers of the Colonies, and for which the United States Government made a movie entitled, "Hemp for Victory". Why is it illegal? To protect the financial corporate interests of the textile, petrochemical, and lumber (paper) industries. How long will America stand for corporate America sticking it to the little guy?

Hemp, Natures Perfect Plant

Industrial hemp is an incredible resource. Hemp is harvested for its fibers for hemp clothing and seeds for hemp oil. With a relatively short growth cycle of 100-120 days, it is an efficient and economical crop for farmers to grow, however, industrial hemp cannot be commercially grown in the United States because it is erroneously confounded with marijuana. In fact, industrial hemp and marijuana are different breeds of Cannabis sativa. Smoking large amounts of hemp flowers can produce a headache but not a high!

Supreme Court Upholds Right to Medical Marijuana

When California passed its Medical Marijuana law some years ago, three counties steadfastly refused to issue identification cards to patients, San Diego, San Bernardino, and Merced. San Diego argued that federal law, which does not recognize medical marijuana usage, supersedes state law. San Diego lost that argument in a state trial and in the appellate courts. The California Supreme Court refused to hear the case. Merced dropped out of the case.

San Diego and San Bernardino decided to take a long-shot gamble to attempt to to have the U.S. Supreme Court hear the case. The United States Supreme Court refused to hear the case upholding the rights of medical marijuana patients. This is a landmark decision, or non-decision that paves the way for Medical Marijuana to be the law of the land in California.

To anyone who has followed the unethical actions of the San Diego and San Bernardino Supervisors over the past three years, the Supreme Court’s refusal to hear their appeal shouldn’t come as a surprise. After all, the counties’ vapid arguments had previously been struck down — unanimously — by the Superior Court of the State of California in the 4th District Court of Appeals.

In addition, the Legislative Counsel of California, the state Attorney General’s Office, and a majority of the California legislature had also previously determined that local politicians and law enforcement were obligated to uphold the provisions of California’s medical marijuana laws. Finally, California’s constitution is also quite clear on this point — mandating that police have a sworn duty to uphold state law, not to enforce federal statutes.

Let’s be blunt: San Diego and San Bernardino’s protracted lawsuits — lawsuits that arguably cost county taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars and jeopardized the health and safety of thousands (if not tens of thousands) of citizens — were never about resolving legal ambiguity. Rather, it was about the arrogance and recalcitrance of those who willfully chose to abuse their power and position to hamstring the will of the voters, the legislature, and the courts.

And while this particular legal battle is now over, our outrage shouldn’t be. We now know that Medical marijuana, if used in its proper form as an ingestible medication (Hemp Oil with THC) kills cancer cells. It is being proven all over the world, It is time that the US lift Gerald Ford's 1975 ban on anyone being allowed to test marijuana in the U.S. other than pharmaceutical companies, and launch a full testing program to confirm the miraculous properties of this natural herb.

A US couple who refused chemotherapy for their 13-year-old son on religious grounds have been ordered to have the boy re-evaluated to see if he would still benefit from the cancer treatment.

A judge in Minnesota found that Daniel Hauser had been "medically neglected" by his parents, Colleen and Anthony Hauser, who belong to a religious group that believes in using only natural healing methods practised by some American Indians. Judge John Rodenberg allowed Daniel to stay with his parents, noting that they love him and had acted in good faith. But he gave them until Tuesday to get an updated chest X-ray and select an oncologist.

If the tumour has not grown and if Daniel's prognosis remains as optimistic as doctors testified in a hearing last week, then chemotherapy and possible radiation appear to be in Daniel's best interest, the judge said. "The State has successfully shown by clear and convincing evidence that continued chemotherapy is medically necessary," he said in a written judgment, adding he would not order chemotherapy if doctors find the cancer has advanced to a point where it is "too late".

If chemotherapy is ordered and the family refuses, the judge said, Daniel will be placed in temporary custody. It was unclear how the medicine would be administered if the boy fights it, which he said he would do, according to his court testimony unsealed on Friday.

He believes the chemo will kill him, and said: "I'd fight it. I'd punch them and I'd kick them."

Anyone who saw Farrah Fawcett's story on television KNOWS that it was the fact that chemotherapy and radiation burned and destroyed ALL CELLS, not just the unhealthy ones, that has led to physicians at UCLA Medical Center insisting that further surgery was not possible for her.

Side Effects of Chemotherapy

It is well known that cancer cells grow and divide more rapidly than normal cells and most anticancer drugs are designed specifically to destroy growing cells. Normal healthy cells also grow and multiply and some more quickly than others. The chemotherapy agent targeted for cancer cells, therefore, can also affect these cells. This results in damage to healthy tissue which is one of the main side effects of chemotherapy. The extent of these effects on normal tissue varies depending upon the type of drugs that are used and how the body reacts. Over time, normal cells will recover and continue functioning; cancer cells die off. Medical oncologists (the doctors who specialize in giving chemotherapy) explain the side effects that are most likely to occur with the agents which are to be used and prescribe medications to help with these side effects.

The side effects may include: Nausea and vomiting; Fatigue; Anemia; Hair loss, loss of fertility, and damage to blood platelets and white blood cells. The medications prescribed for these side effects themselves come with additional sometimes serious side effects. THERE IS NO PROOF THAT CHEMOTHERAPY AND RADIATION ARE CURES FOR CANCER. THEY ARE NOT.

These two barbaric therapies that involve the destruction of ALL cells, healthy or sick, is simply the best our medical system can do.

THE MYTH OF REMISSION

After surgery or treatment with radiation or chemotherapy, a doctor will then do tests to see if the cancer is still there. If there are no signs of cancer, then the patient is in REMISSION. Remission is the goal when anyone with cancer goes to the hospital for treatment. Sometimes, this means additional chemotherapy might be needed for a while to keep cancer cells from coming back. They proclaim the patient, "Cancer free". That is, until the cancer has spread to other areas of the body.

Cancer patients cured by chemotherapy? Zero

There is not a single cancer patient that has ever been cured by chemotherapy. Zero. Nado. None. Not one single documented case in the history of western medicine. Why? Because conventional medicine operates from the false belief that there is no cure for cancer. Anyone suggesting there may be a cure is immediately dismissed as a nutcase or a quack. In the meantime, the real quackery is the toxic chemotherapy chemicals that are injected into the bodies of patients and called "treatment". It's no different than napalming the jungles in Vietnam. Everything gets killed including healthy cells.

CONCLUSION

It is time to stop forcing people to submit to barbaric therapies such as radiation and chemotherapy. The stated purpose of the American Cancer Society and other similar organizations, in what would is known as the 'War on Cancer' - (a phrase coined by Richard Nixon) - is to find a cure for cancer! Year after year, these organizations collect hundreds of millions of dollars promising that effective treatment for cancer is right around the corner. "We can complete the Mission. We can stamp out cancer in your lifetime. But we need your help!"

To ask the American Cancer Society or the National Cancer Institute to find a cancer cure is to say, 'Be successful. Once you have achieved your goal, promptly commit suicide.' For once a real cancer cure or cures are announced, the need for these organizations, which collect hundreds of billions of dollars in the aggregate annually for treatment and research - from governments, agencies, foundations, corporations, insurance companies, and private individuals - all of them, without exception, will have lost their reason for existence. That is why a cancer cure will never come from them: the very nature of their mandate is a violation of Natural Law. It is a grand act of political expediency and managerial stupidity that has made what should have been an easy-to-solve medical puzzle and turned it into the single greatest act of man-made carnage in history -- a fraud of unspeakable magnitude that has spanned more than a century, and has needlessly caused the premature deaths of tens of millions of people.

No court in America has the right to force a family into such a barbaric and potentially fatal "treatment" as has been ordered by the court in this young boy's case. We have written in this column many times about the fact that more and more medical evidence is surfacing that Cannabinoids kill cancer cells. Finally! America Favors Legalization of Marijuana

The Time is Now

It's only "A Matter of Time". That is the name of a great book by Don Kirchner, a decorated Vietnam combat helicopter pilot whose adventures as a marijuana smuggler tells the tale of how deeply involved organized crime cartels are in the marketing and sales of this, the safest drug on the planet. It is a fascinating and exciting tale that I strongly recommend to everyone.

A matter of time also refers to the current situation in America. The people of America have reached the point of understanding that this banned plant needs to be legalized. A new Zogby poll commissioned by the conservative-leaning O'Leary Report has found 52% voter support for treating marijuana as a legal, taxed, regulated substance.

The survey, published as a full-page ad in today's issue of the political newspaper, The Hill, polled a sample of 3,937 voters weighted to match the 2008 presidential outcome -- 54 percent Obama voters and 46 percent McCain supporters. The results showed a decisive majority of 52 percent in favor with 37 percent opposed and 11 percent not sure -- slightly higher than the 46 percent support reported in an ABC News/Washington Post poll released at the end of April.

In California, the respected Field poll recently found 56 percent support for making marijuana a taxed, regulated product that is legal for adults.

"This new survey continues the recent trend of strong and growing support for taxing and regulating marijuana and ending the disastrously failed policy of prohibition," said Rob Kampia, executive director of the Marijuana Policy Project in Washington, D.C. Of course, politicians will fight against it as the money behind them wants to maintain control of its distribution.

Another important reason that politicians seek to continue the ban is the tremendous lobbying influence of the American Medical Association and the pharmaceutical industry. The fact is that they are fully aware of the cancer killing properties of THC, marijuana's active ingredient. We addressed these issues in other articles, such as THE PRESIDENT MAKES A MISTAKE.

Mr. Obama spoke about wanting a cure for cancer. Arlen Specter, suffering from cancer which is apparently starting to affect his judgment or memory (he said he wanted Norm Coleman appointed at Senator of Minnesota, then retraced his steps and said he forgot what party he was supposed to support) could surely benefit from the proven anti-cancer therapy that Hemp with THC brings to cancer patients. The medical evidence is there and growing:

In 2000 Dr. Manuel Guzman of Complutense University in Madrid Spain re-discovered that THC destroys tumors with no negative side effects whatsoever. His team also irrigated healthy rats brains with high doses of THC for seven days and again found no negative results. Cannabinoids kill cancer cells by cutting off their blood supply but not to the healthy cells. These results have since been duplicated around the globe with many other cancers as well.

In 2005 Dr. Xia Zhang of the University of Saskatchewan found that THC actually promotes the growth of brain cells bringing new hope for head trauma and stroke patients. The same year the Scripps Institute reported that THC was a superior inhibitor of the plaque that causes Alzheimers. Unfortunately we hear little of any of these findings.

In 2008 researchers in Italy and the U.K. found that cannabinoids have germ killing activity against MRSA and kill bacteria in a different way than current antibiotics, meaning they might bypass bacterial resistance. MRSA's are becoming more and more prevalent and new treatments are desperately needed.

Our government KNOWS that marijuana kills cancer cells. They have known for a long time. In 1974 researchers at the Medical College of Virginia, who had been funded by the National Institute of Health to find evidence that marijuana damages the immune system, found instead that THC slowed the growth of three kinds of cancer in mice - lung and breast cancer, and a virus-induced leukemia.

The DEA quickly shut down the Virginia study and all further cannabis/tumor research, according to Jack Herer, who reports on the events in his book, "The Emperor Wears No Clothes." In 1976 President Gerald Ford put an end to all public cannabis research and granted exclusive research rights to major pharmaceutical companies, who set out - unsuccessfully - to develop synthetic forms of THC that would deliver all the medical benefits without the "high."

In the early 1960s, probably 80% of America supported the "war" in Vietnam. After the killings of Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy the youth of America organized and educated America as to what was actually going on in Vietnam. By the end of the 60s, the support for the war continued to drop and by the early 1970's, over 2/3 of Americans wanted us out of Vietnam.

The propaganda and misinformation put out about Marijuana influenced the public for a long time. Each year, however, more and more people realize that this is a medicinal plant put here either by a creator or "nature", but one that has never resulted in a single case of lung cancer, nor a single death. Every prescription drug has side effects and can result in death. Go figure.

Guitar legend Carlos Santana is urging U.S. President Obama to legalize the use of marijuana. He says that making cannabis legal would boost America's flagging economy and create jobs and of course he is right.
